What it covers
Joints, bones, tendons, ligaments and the muscles working across them. Wear-and-tear problems like osteoarthritis, acute injuries like fractures and tendon tears, and the rehabilitation that follows orthopaedic surgery.
Working to the surgeon’s plan
A good share of this caseload arrives after treatment at one of the coast hospitals, holding a protocol. Those protocols exist because tissue heals on a schedule, and pushing ahead of it risks the repair.
We follow them, and explain why each restriction exists. Patients who understand that a graft is at its weakest around weeks six to twelve respect the limits far better than patients simply told not to do something.
Before surgery is decided
Many people arrive having been told an operation is next. Worth knowing: for several common problems (degenerative meniscal tears, much shoulder impingement, knee osteoarthritis) structured rehabilitation performs comparably to surgery for a large proportion of patients.
We will not tell you to avoid an operation you need. We will tell you when a proper trial of rehabilitation is worth attempting first.

Common questions
My surgeon gave me a protocol. Do you follow it?
Yes. Bring it, and any notes from the hospital. We work within it and contact the surgeon's rooms if anything needs clarifying.
Can physiotherapy help arthritis or is surgery inevitable?
It will not reverse joint changes, but strength and movement work reliably reduces pain and improves function, and frequently postpones surgery by years. For some people it removes the need.
How long does frozen shoulder take?
Twelve to eighteen months through its natural course. Treatment manages pain and protects the range you have. Anyone promising a quick fix is not being straight with you.
