Recovery is relearning
The damaged part of the brain does not regrow. What happens instead is reorganisation, and that is driven by repeated, specific, difficult practice of the movements you want back. Rehabilitation therefore looks repetitive, because it has to be: hundreds of repetitions of a reach, a step, a sit-to-stand.
Frequency matters more than intensity in any one session. Two or three visits a week over months achieves far more than an occasional heroic effort.
Why home, on this coast especially
Transport is the single most common reason neurological rehabilitation stops early, and the coast makes that worse than most places, a family in Mtwapa or across the ferry faces a serious journey twice a week for months.
Treating at home removes that entirely, and improves the work. Practising on your own stairs, in your own bathroom, with your own doorways transfers far better than practising in a clinic.
Honest expectations
Neurological recovery is slow and rarely linear. There are plateaus and weeks that go backwards for no clear reason. We tell you what we think is achievable and revise it as we learn how you respond, rather than promising what nobody can guarantee. Families deserve that as much as patients do.

Common questions
How soon after a stroke should rehabilitation begin?
As soon as the medical team says it is safe, often within days. Early rehabilitation is strongly linked to better outcomes and time lost early is hard to recover.
The stroke was over a year ago. Is it too late?
No. Recovery is fastest in the first six months, but improvements in walking, balance and daily function are well documented years later, particularly for people who have never had structured rehabilitation.
Is there much stroke rehabilitation available on the coast?
Less than there should be, and that is a large part of why we offer it. Many coast families end up managing recovery alone at home with no professional input at all.
Can family be involved?
They should be. Whoever helps day to day gets taught safe transfers, positioning, and how to encourage without doing the work for the patient.
