A holiday caseload, mostly
Watamu’s presentation profile is unlike anywhere else we work. Diving dominates, and the injuries usually come from the surface, not the depth. Tanks are heavy, carried on one side, hauled in and out of boats, and shoulders object.
Then snorkelling and swimming volume that people do not do at home, kitesurfing in season, and the ordinary holiday back that seizes after a long flight followed immediately by four days of unaccustomed activity.
The stretch we cover
Watamu Village and Turtle Bay on the beach side, Mida Creek and Dabaso inland, Jacaranda and Blue Lagoon, and Gede at the junction. All on the same planned day, which is what makes the distance workable.
Working around a departure date
The single most useful question we ask Watamu patients is when they fly. If you have ten days, we can plan a proper course. If you have three, the goal changes: settle the pain, protect the trip, and give you a written programme to continue at home with your own physiotherapist. Both are legitimate; they are just different jobs.

Questions from Watamu patients
How far in advance do I need to book?
Ideally a week. Watamu is nearly two hours from the clinic and we run it as a scheduled day combined with Malindi and Gede, rather than as an individual trip.
I am diving daily and my shoulder has gone. Can you help before I fly home?
Often yes. Tell us how many days you have left. A single assessment plus a clear programme is frequently the most useful thing we can do in a short window, and we will say honestly if we cannot reach you in time to be worth it.
Do you visit villas as well as resorts?
Yes. Private villas along the Watamu and Mida stretch are a large part of what we see here.
